The newly elected gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde has has promised to walk the talk if he eventually becomes the governor of the state in the forthcoming general election.
Engineer Makinde, who in his acceptance speech shortly after the exercise that saw him winning with a wide merging 2,772 votes over his arc rival, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, who polled 21 votes while invalid votes were 121, described his victory at the party’s gubernatorial primary as bittersweet and provoking a deep sense of sobriety as a result of not only daunting but also challenging work ahead.
The PDP gubernatorial candidate reiterated that the party has the capacity to address the myriads of challenges confronting the people, in particular, the vulnerable citizens in the past seven and half years.
Engineer Makinde noted that his administration, if given the opportunity will address the issue of unemployment, which has invariably put many hardworking families in the state in abject poverty.
He decried the situation in the state where government monies have been siphoned out of government coffers and used as an instrument of oppression to taunt, blackmail and seduce the vulnerable masses who actually own the wealth.
The Ibadan born politician acknowledged that good governance is a function of effective policy, and his decision to join politics is to provide solutions to public policy problems.
Seyi Makinde emphasized that his administration will focus attention on five strategic areas of agriculture, education, health, infrastructure and security in order to make meaningful impact in the lives of Oyo State citizens.
He opined that economic situation of Oyo State is worrisome as a result of bad management of its resources. He added that with an average of N1.8bn from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) every month and a record debt profile of over #130bn, there is need to formulate strategy to improve the revenue base of the state using innovative approaches that will not affect the welfare of the citizenry or discourage investors.
Engr. Makinde promised to encourage young people to take charge of their lives by improving access to resources and transforming their consciousness through their beliefs,values and attitudes.
He saluted the courage and determination of his opponent, Senator Ayoade Adeseun who fought hard and decently to clinch the coveted candidacy, adding that he is looking forward to work with him to ensure victory for PDP in the 2019 election.
Seyi Makinde called on all party faithfuls and the entire Oyo State residents to join hands with him in actualizing his plans to make the state great again by supporting him to win the forthcoming governorship election and give the long suffering people of Oyo State the responsible and responsive governance that they desire.
