In its bid to further ensure effective preservation of the rich cultural heritage of the people of Ogun State, create easy access for farmers and promote social and health well being of the people of the State, the State House of Assembly has ensured that six bills meant to cater for the different sectors passed through first reading on the floor of the Assembly.
The bills which were read for the first time by the Clerk of the House, Engr Lanre Bisiriyu at the plenary presided over by Speaker Suraju Ishola Adekunbi at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. included :”the Ogun State Centre for African Drum Festival Law, 2018, – A bill for a law to establish the Ogun State Centre for African Drum Festival as an annual international cultural event in the State and a Board for the Management of the affairs of the Centre”.
Others were the Ogun State Cash and Food Crops Marketing Board, 2018, Public Private Partnership Law of Ogun State 2018, Tenancy Law of Ogun State , 2018, Ogun State Mortgages and Foreclosure Law , 2018 and the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme Law, 2018 as well as the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (Amendment) Law, 2018.
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that the seven bills were forwarded to the State Assembly by Governor Ibikunle Amosun barely three weeks ago vide separate correspondences dated 15th of October, 2018.
In the same vein, the State House of Assembly has assured that it would continue to enact more legislations that would have direct positive impact on the socio-economic development of the State.
The Clerk and Permanent Secretary of the State House of Assembly, Eng. Lanre Bisiriyu gave the assurance while briefing the members of the House Committee on House Services led by Hon. Olusola Sonuga during the 2018 Budget appraisal at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta.
Bisiriyu explained that the 8th legislature during the period under review, had passed a total of (12) motions into resolution, noting that the Assembly had been holding mediation meetings between representatives of different Communities in order to resolve issues that could lead to disturbance of public peace in the State.
In there responses, Hon. Olusola Sonuga and the Chief Whip, Idowu Olowofuja commended the Management of the House for its accountability and prudency in the management of resources, expressing optimism that the implementation of the autonomy granted the State Houses of Assembly would help address financial challenges confronting the State Legislature.
