Former Chairman, Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi has advised politicians to stop making promises they can never fulfill in order to seek the peoples’ mandate in the elections.

Prince Adewusi, who is the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ibadan North East State Constituency 1, disclosed this while featuring on Oro Oselu, a radio programme on Premier FM, Ibadan recently.

He stated that before anybody should think of going into politics or stand a chance to contest in any election; he must be of good character and be contributing to the development of his immediate community and state at large.

Prince Adewusi added that before he became the Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, he had been contributing his quota towards the progress of the local government.

He pointed out that many politicians are so desperate to the extent that there is no promise they can not make when seeking votes from the electorates, he said further that it is impossible for a lawmaker to execute road projects or any capital project.

He expressed that the only move a lawmaker can make is to influence the governor, especially when he has a good relationship with him to do certain projects in his constituency. He said that lawmakers’ constituency projects are not for capital projects; rather, they can carry out minor projects meant for the development of their constituencies.

Adewusi opined that having a constituency office for a lawmaker is an important step towards ensuring a cordial relationship between lawmakers and their constituents. He said that it is as an avenue to meet with the people and discuss issues.

The ADC candidate in the coming election, while advising politicians to do away with attacking opponents in their campaign, urged them to make the campaign issue-based to influence and promote their candidates before the electorates.
