The 2019 Africa U20 Cup of Nations ended on Sunday with Mali winning the trophy after beating Senegal on penalties, while South Africa and Nigeria finished third and fourth respectively.
After 16 games at the tournament, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had one more business to do : picking the best eleven players in each position.
In a surprise decision, goalkeeper Olawale Oremade, who posted three shutouts during the tournament, was snubbed in the starting line-up as the organizers went for Girona’s Mali U20 glovesman Youssouf Koïta.
Deployed as a left-back, Flying Eagles skipper Ikouwem Udo made the Team of the Tournament as well as left-footed central defender Valentine Ozornwafor.
Both players are on the books of NPFL giants, Enyimba and went the distance in all the group matches plus the semifinal loss to Mali.
The 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Best XI team was set up in a 4-2-2-2 system and also contained four Senegalese players, two Malians, a South African, a Burundian and a Nigerien.
