The Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung has submitted that Government must continue in its role as the major source of Sports funding in Nigeria until the Federations fully gain private sector-trust.
Dalung alluded that the relationship between Sports Federation and the Private sector became strained over the years when “we were unable to manage this core values effectively, so we lost; considerably, the goodwill of the private sector.”
“They are only returning because presently most of the Federations are beginning to get support from the private sector, but it will take time for us to regain this confidence.
“It is not something we can switch over immediately so Government will have to continue as major sponsor of sport while we build this confidence in the administration of sports; transparency and accountability.
“And once this is established everybody can put his money without fear,” the Sports Minister explained.
