Nigeria international winger, Emmanuel Dennis needs “to eat a lot of sandwiches” before he can reach the level of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, according to Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko.
Dennis scored for the second consecutive game when he netted in Brugge’s 4-0 win over Standard Liege on Monday night.
Overall, the 21-year-old Nigerian has scored six goals and registered three assists in 25 matches across all competitions this season, but his performances of late have been particularly impressive.
“The difference between today’s Dennis and that of three months ago is that he continues to play in turbo after twenty or thirty minutes,” Leko said in a post-match press conference.
“He can provide extra motivation for top matches but in the past, he sometimes stops playing football after one goal or assist. That is no longer the case.
“Whether he will ever be able to reach the Ronaldo or Messi level? He has a lot of talent but will still have to eat a lot of sandwiches.”
Dennis’ Club Brugge are placed second in the Championship round of the Pro League, trailing leaders Genk by one point.
