All is set for a two-in-one event that promises to bring Yoruba leaders together to hold next Thursday, 27 June 2019, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

It is a day the Southwest Governors, Obas, eminent scholars and other leaders will discuss the security situation in the region and forge a strategy to assist the governments  and the people of the area.

Also, the Yoruba language version of the book, AWO (the autobiography of Chief Obafemi Awolowo), shall be presented to the public.

“We need to meet again; we just need to talk. . . .” says Mr Alao Adedayo, the Publisher of Alaroye Newspaper, the organiser of the conference.

“The situation in Yoruba land now calls for the unity of our leaders because we cannot win this war against insurgents except we form a common front. And that’s why we have to invoke the name of the past Leader of the Yoruba people, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, to bring all together, irrespective of political differences.”

The programme being coordinated by Ambassador (Dr) Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, and has the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi as the Chairman and the Alaafin Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi (III) as the Royal Father of the day, will discuss the role of traditional rulers, governments and the people of South West in all efforts and programmes to stop kidnapping and killings in the region.

In bringing Awolowo’s name into the Programme, Adedayo had this to say: “Our major problem here is that our leaders are not united, they disagree and fight on everything, and it is all about politics. Unfortunately, this is causing us a lot of damage. And when we remember that most of these politicians claim to be Awo’s political sons and daughters, there couldn’t have been a better name to bring all to a round table for discussion.”

The Governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde, is to host other South west Governors as the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, receives the Obas. The book, AWO, in Yoruba language shall be presented by Chief Kessington Adebutu, while Professor Banji Akintoye opens the discussion on how to save not only the Yoruba people, but all Nigerians.
