Arrangements are in top gears between the federal government through National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Oyo State House of Assembly to collaborate and organise town hall meetings for the state’s lawmakers.

The town hall meeting is a platform for the legislators to assess and give feedback on their activities at their various constituencies.

The non-partisan platform according to the agency is to give the lawmakers holistic opportunity to interact with their constituents outside their political parties’ structure.

Speaking during the agency’s courtesy visit to the Speaker on Monday, August 26th, 2019, the State Director of the agency, Mrs. Dolapo Dosunmu noted that the partnership will benefit both the government and the good people of Oyo State.

She stated that the legislators will be encouraged to highlight projects and programmes they have executed towards improving the general welfare of the people, while the constituents will also intimate them with social and economic challenges facing them and areas their representatives are expected to intervene.

Her words, “This is not a new initiative, because we have records of successful editions with the previous assembly and we believe we will even achieve more this time.

“The town hall meeting allows the participants to know what is happening in government, express their feelings towards specific government policies without limitations often caused by party differences.”

In his response, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin described the proposed partnership as a welcome development, adding that he and the Deputy Speaker of the house, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi are ready to take the lead.

Ogundoyin noted that staying connected to the people is important, because it is the only way to achieve true and effective representation.

“During my campaign, we had lots of contacts with artisans’ groups across my local government and they supported us to win at the election, they also deserve the feedback on our efforts here as their representatives.

“The 9th Assembly is made up of vibrant lawmakers and I can assure you that the whole 32 members will be part of this before the end of our tenure,” the Speaker said.
