IGP Adamu Visits Ekiti, Rolls Out Welfare Packages For Police Officers

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu has visited Ekiti State Police Command on a one day official tour to assess the present conditions of men and officers, their welfare and the general state of security in the fountain of knowledge.

The visit of Mr. Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police to Ekiti State was the first since he assumed office as the IGP earlier this year.

IGP Mohammed Adamu during his official visit to Ekiti State mentioned some of the welfare packages the police officers in the fountain of knowledge stand to enjoy to include adequate provision of health care facilities, health insurance scheme, housing, bulletproof vests, security jackets, uniforms, the rejuvenation of the Police cooperatives, establishments of Police Mortgage Banks and that Police Officers due for promotion will be undergo more training and will be promoted.

He advised the police officers to register with NHIS to enable them enjoy the health insurance scheme of the police.

“The IGP further reiterated that the Governors and others stakeholders in the Southwest region have agreed to mobilize the security agencies with new patrol vehicles to reinforce and double up the efforts of the Commands in the zone to be more alert to duties and responsibilities.

Continued the IGP “the vehicles are not just patrol vehicles but embedded with the state of the art sophisticated equipments to track down suspects and criminals. No officer should die during the course of carrying out their official duties. Officers due for promotion will be promoted at the same time. Police uniforms will be distributed according to names and ranks. The era of police officers buying and sowing uniforms themselves is gone”, he assured.

In the same development, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu while speaking with the press, revealed that the 36 Nigerians arrested for allegedly vandalising businesses belonging to South Africans in reaction to the xenophobic attacks will be prosecuted.

Adamu said “Nigeria is a country being governed by laws, describing those displaying such anti-xenophobic demonstration as criminals and unpatriotic citizens. He said their arrest was lawful and justifiable and was done to portray Nigerians as law abiding citizens before the global community.

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers and the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, commended the IGP and promised that the body would continually support the police to make Ekiti safe.

Present at the event were also the representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the leaders of Ndigbo Community and that of the Hausa’s Community in the state.
