Oyo Legislators Hailed For Early Passage Of N213 Billion 2020 Appropriation Bill Into Law

The people of Oyo State have expressed happiness with the State’s House of Assembly for working hard to ensure that the 2020 Appropriation Bill got passed into law early enough.

The Appropriation Bill, which is to the tune of N213,788,033,200.97k was passed during the plenary held on Thursday, December 20th, 2019.

Respondents who spoke with PMParrot praised the legislators for being serious and focused.

Said one of our respondents “The early passage of the budget shows that this group of Legislators are bent on ensuring that the dividends of democracy gets to the people early. They have shown that they are in the House to do exactly what those who voted for them want them to do. We are happy with them.

The approved budget covers a recurrent expenditure N110, 427,855,990.00 and capital expenditure of N103,360,177,083.97k.

The Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Kehinde Olatunde, while presenting the report, noted that the approved budget is an upward review of N208,802,972,878 presented by Governor Seyi Makinde on November 27th, 2019.

The Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, in his speech disclosed that the House adopted a zero-base system, whereby budget is prepared from the scratch, rather adding to the previous budget as it has been the style of the past government.

The Speaker said that the committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation will undergo training on the proper monitoring of the ministries, departments and agencies to ensure budget performance of 70 to 80 percent.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State House of Assembly has confirmed the list of four members of the Judiciary Service Commission presented by Governor Seyi Makinde.

Governor Makinde has presented names of four nominees to work with Chairman of the commission and Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Munta Abimbola.

The list include Mr. Kehinde Akinkunmi (Esq.), Mr. Ogunrinde Yusuf Olatunji (Esq.), Lateef Adetunji Adedigba (Esq.), and Wahab Adedigba.

The Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin expressed that it is the duty of the three arms of government to work together to ensure better government.

He charged the nominees to work on how to fastrack prompt dispensation of Justice in the state.

While speaking to journalists on behalf of other nominees, Lateef Adedigba (Esq.), stated that the commission will look into the case of fewer judges attending to large number of cases by taking advantage of approval granted by National Judicial Council (NJC) to appoint more judges.
