The new Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Nwachukwu Enwonwu has called on men and officers of the state’s police command to always observe and give respect to the fundamental rights of the people while carrying out their lawful duties.

Mr. Enwonwu also used the opportunity to warn them to be guided by high level of discipline, which he described as the bedrock of policing system.

The new commissioner made the call after taking over from the former Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shina Olukolu. The event took place at the police headquarters, Eleyele, on Monday, June 1st, 2020.

Enwonwu expressed that it is imperative for the men and officers of the police force to uphold dignity and respect the fundamental human right of the people as it enshrined in the sections 32 and 45 of the 1999 Nigerian constitution as amended.

He warned that any officer caught in the act of violating human right should be ready to bear the cross alone, saying that he is not ready to share responsibility with any erring officer of the force.

The Commissioner of Police further enjoined them to continue to put in the their best to bring crime rate in the state to nearest minimum.

Enwonwu urged them to maintain high level of discipline and tempo of good performance by joining hands with one another.

While soliciting full cooperation of the officers to improve policing system, the Commissioner of Police established his readiness to work with all relevant stakeholders in the state to protect lives and properties of the people.

Enwonwu implored the people of Oyo state to continue to be law abiding and also support the police by making credible information available for them to discharge their constitutional duties accordingly.

He expressed that it is only a crime-free environment will enable citizens to go out for their day-to-day activities and attract foreign investors to develop the state’s economy.

In his speech, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shina Olukolu, while commending the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar for the opportunity to serve in the state, he applauded the state government and the people of Oyo State for their support throughout his stay.

Olukolu advised the new commissioner to accommodate everybody by embracing an open door policy to have a successful tenure.

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, last week announced the redeployment of 11 Commissioners of Police across the country.
