Nigeria’s Ultimate Fighting Championship champion, Kamaru Usman has expressed his displeasure over some fans’ reaction after his victory over American fighter, Jorge Masvidal in the UFC 251 clash at UFC Fight Island, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates capital.
Usman, who dominated the five rounds clash, felt bad by the reactions of the fans branding the fight ‘the most boring champion’ on social media, says they both should be appreciated for putting on a good show.
“Well maybe they need to get in there and fight Jorge Masvidal for 25 minutes and then say something. We’re risking our lives in there. And we’ve trained,” Usman, who his teeming nicknamed Nigerian Nightmare’ said.
Speaking on his tactics that made the fans to tagged the clash boring, the 33 year old, who currently in 6th position in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings, said his training come to play whenever he is in the cage and do not care whatever anyone say to that.
“What was the point of training each and every day and then go in there for a slug fest?
“You can train to be able to make someone miss and control them in a certain way. That’s what training is for, so you’re not in there taking punishment at will. I do that better than anybody.
“They can say whatever they want. I worked for 25 minutes. Even when we were up against the cage, I worked for 25 minutes. I gave him opportunities where he could have got off the cage, but he was content staying there and I kept working.
“Whoever’s saying that, they can say whatever they want but come share the octagon with Jorge Masvidal for 25 minutes and let’s see [then] what they’d say,” Usman added.
With the win over Masvidal, Usman is now ties with Georges St-Pierre for the longest welterweight winning streak in the UFC.
