Kelechi Nwakali could be invited into the Super Eagles for this month’s African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone.
According to reports, Super Eagles technical crew led by Gernot Rohr could hand the Huesca midfielder his chance, should Kenneth Omeruo fail to recover from the injury he sustained over the weekend.
Nwakali was placed on standby in the initial list for the game, and could be drafted into the squad for Kenneth Omeruo who might sit out of the match according to reports.
Omeruo is facing two to three weeks on sideline after picking uo a hamstring injury in Leganes 1 – 0 win over Mirandes over the weekend.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winning defender left the pitch after suffering a puncture in the back of his left thigh while playing for Spanish second division outfit Leganes.
Gernot Rohr have enough bodies in the Omeruo’s position with Semi Ajayi, Leon Balogun, Kevin Akpoguma, William Troost-Ekong and Chidozie Awaziem all available for selection.
Nwakali on his part, made his first Spanish Premiere Liga start for Huesca away to Real Madrid over the weekend.
The clash with the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone is a double headerwith the meeting billed for Benin City while the reversed fixture has been scheduled Freetown.
