A former Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Chief John Filani has given reasons for deciding to move away from the party in favour of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the state.
Filani stated this while playing host to the newly elected leadership of the Ekiti State Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ado Ekiti during the week.
Filani, who is the newly elected YPP Chairman in Ekiti State, reiterated that the party will present a youth as the gubernatorial candidate in the 2022 election in the state.
He equally charged all the political stakeholders in the state to work together to ensure that the state is developed economically while ensuring that the status quo in the state is altered.
He cited his reason for moving out of the All Progressive Congress to join the Young Progressive Party is because due to the fact that he is no longer convinced to continue to stay in his former party.
According to him, “I have looked through several other political parties and platforms where I can make available my wealth and resources of knowledge and I found that the Young Progressive Party (YPP) is a party that her constitution goes in line with the welfare of the masses”, he submitted.
He therefore expressed optimism that come 2022 in Ekiti State and in the 2023 in general election in Nigeria that the Young Progressive Party (YPP) will be a third force with a radical departure from the past and that the platform will be the brightest choice for only the patriotic Nigerians and will be popularised as a Ballot Revolution Movement.
Also, speaking at the event, the current Chairman of IPAC in Ekiti State, Honourable Ifedayo Iyaniwura commended the efforts of Chief Filani for inviting the leadership of IPAC to the meeting. He said the era where tax clearance is made compulsory for political aspirants during the election are over especially during the local government elections in the State.
He, therefore called on the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) to be fair, noting that it has no right to disqualify any candidate or any political party from contesting in the local government election coming up later in the year.
The IPAC boss also called on party leaders in the state to ensure that the nomination forms for the Councillorship candidates is free in order to encourage a more robust and popular participation by the other political parties ahead of the local government election.
Similarly, the Southwest Zonal Secretary of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Honourable Leye Ogunseyin charged other political party leaders in Ekiti State to be awake to their responsibilities ahead of the local government election.
