It is right to say that silence is golden while it is also absolutely correct that keeping one’s mouth shut is Solomonic.

However, there are so many times that these notions are not practicable – especially in these times that Nigeria as a nation has found itself.

Where does one start? The nation is almost getting used to the nefarious activities of the Boko Haram elements in the North East. In addition, the culture of kidnapping is practically blending with the day-to-day lifestyles of residents of the country.

The most discussed, and presently on the front burner is the problem being created by criminal Fulani herdsmen all over the country.

These ubiquitous Nigerians (?) had recently invaded Igbooro, Oja-Odan in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, leaving three dead and two villagers injured. The marauding herdsmen had reportedly invaded the village close to Eggua in Oja-Odan around 11pm, shooting sporadically and setting ablaze three houses and storehouses in the village.

In the latest killing, a mother and her child were among the three persons hacked to death in their huts, while two persons were said to be in critical condition after they were shot by the herdsmen.

In Oyo State, Ibarapaland specifically, the people there live in perpetual fears of being overrun by herdsmen.

As if this is not enough, violence erupted over the weekend at popular Shasha Market in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State. The battle was reportedly between Hausa and Yoruba folks. Curfew has since been imposed to confirm the level of destruction of lives and property.

Despite all these, not a word has been heard directly from President Muhammadu Buhari, the nation’s leader. Nobody is even talking about him visiting some of these troubled spots.

Governance is more than just regaling in Aso Rock located in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. Nigerians desire more robust and proactive leadership to calm frayed nerves. A stitch in time, often can save more than nine (lives).

Long live the Federal Republic Of Nigeria!
