A combined team of security operatives have sealed off the Palms Shopping Mall housing Shoprite and other retail outlets in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
This action by the security men was necessitated by the need to maintain law and other after a fresh graduate of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Akinola Babatunde was reportedly shot dead by unknown assailants on Sunday.
PMParrot’s correspondence who visited the shopping mall along Ring Road, reported that there was heavy presence of armed police personnel at the shopping mall as customers were turned back at the gate by the officers.
An eyewitness, who spoke on conditions of anonymity said the incident happened on Sunday evening when a policeman on duty had a scuffle with the young man named Akinola Babatunde who had come to celebrate after graduating from the Polytechnic of Ibadan. The young graduate was reportedly in possession of Indian hemp.
Continued our source: “The young man was killed on Sunday evening and his body has been taken away by his family”.
Efforts by PMParrot to speak with Mr Segun Ajibola, the man in charge of the day-to-day activities at the mall proved unsuccessful as he did not pick or return our calls.
Earlier in the day, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Mr Adewale Osifeso informed that the development was a case of ‘cult related violence’.
