Ogun State House of Assembly...

Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Health has challenged the State Ministry of Health to always ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of contractors handling the construction and renovation of projects being carried out on all the Primary Health Centres (PHC) across the three Senatorial Districts to ensure compliance with all health related regulations, observations and considerations.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, gave the charge, while examining the budget performance reports of agencies the Ministry and related Sector at the Assembly Complex, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Chairman in company of other lawmakers including Honourables Bolanle Ajayi, Kunle Sobukanla, Sylvester Abiodun, Musefiu Lamidi and Ganiyu Oyedeji charged the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker to ensure a more comprehensive improvement in the monitoring and evaluation phases of all construction and renovation projects of the Ministry.

He equally called on medical and health workers to be more committed towards maintaining good human relations with their patients with a view to encouraging patronage, towards achieving the success of the effective and efficient health care delivery programmes in the State.

According to him, the workers in government-owned health facilities needed to gain public confidence through their service delivery by rendering health care service with human face; while factoring in the individual differences of their patients.

Reeling out the budget performance of the Ministry, Dr. Coker stated that a total of N81.8m was expended on capital projects, with N633.1m on recurrent expenditure and a total of N40.6m generated as revenue within the period under review.

The Commissioner added that the State Primary Health Care Development Board had so far administered the first and second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines on 57,453 people across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State; just as 126, 631 were immunized with only the first dose of the vaccines.

The Lawmakers also considered the budget performance of the State Health Insurance Agency, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital and the State Agency for the Control of AIDS amongst others.
