Nigeria international and Union Berlin striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has said that he has no regrets joining Liverpool, despite failing to play a single competitive game for the Merseyside giants during his six-year stint at the club.

Awoniyi completed a €6.5m summer move to Union in the summer, after spending several years on loan at six different clubs – Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Mouscron, Gent, Mainz, and Union Berlin.

He has been in superb form in the ongoing campaign, scoring 12 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for the modest Berlin-based side.

The Nigeria international, who joined Liverpool in 2015, two years after his heroics at the U-17 World Cup says he does not regret joining Liverpool despite his inability to play for the club due to work permit issues.

“I signed for Liverpool at a period in my young career as a footballer; when I did not understand how it works with work permit issues, but at the end we are still here talking about it,” he told Tribalfootball.

“It shows that I did not make a bad decision to sign for Liverpool. With other players, they can have the work permit immediately.

“I have always said that Liverpool is one of the best things that happened to me as a footballer because they gave me the platform to achieve my dream and with them, I have no regret at all.

“I do not see not being able to play a game in the Premier League as a regret because in life, with time, everything is still possible. So I can count my time as a Liverpool player as something great for my career.”
