Genk coach, Wouter Vrancken has stated that he is unsure as to when Paul Onuachu will return to action, but adds that the Super Eagles striker is getting better.
Onuachu has been out of action since July due to an adductor injury he sustained in Genk’s preseason 2-1 victory against FC Utrecht.
The 27-year-old missed his side’s first three games of the new Jupiler League season and faces a race to be fit for their clash against Zulte Waregem on Sunday.
“It’s hard to know what level of form he is in,” Vrancken told Walfoot.
“He arrived later in the preparation and only played 45 minutes against Heist. The adductor injury also hampered his preparation, although it seems to be getting better and better.”
Meanwhile, Genk have set a new price tag of £17m for Nigeria international Paul Onuachu during this summer transfer.
The former Belgian champions managed to keep their most prized asset from leaving last season but are now preparing for life after the Eagles striker.
Following his impressive performance from last season, Onuachu, who scored 23 goals and made three assists in 43 games, has been linked with top European clubs with West Ham, Sevilla and Benfica believed to be leading the chase for the striker.
“One of the issues is the striker position. Just like last year, it is doubtful whether Onuachu will stay in the Cegeka Arena, while Cyriel Dessers also enjoys a lot of interest after his strong loan spell to Feyenoord. For the time being, they (Dessers and Onuachu) are both still here. But the reality is that the situation may be different by the start of the competition.
“Onuachu can now leave for £17m and he is the player with the least valuation on our list,” Vrancken continued.
