The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the House of Representatives’ seat for Ibadan North Federal constituency, Hon. Olanrewaju Sarumi has assured the people of the constituency of his readiness to support and champion bills that will create employment opportunities, bring investment opportunities and meaningful and purposeful development to Nigeria, Oyo State and Ibadan North in particular.
He said that the time has come for the people of the constituency to elect as he is ready to give them adequate and quality representation.
The youthful PDP candidate gave the assurance while speaking at a media parley held at Glory View Hotel, Bodija, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Saturday, where he revealed his mission in politics and what he would do differently when elected as member of the House of Representatives comes February 2023.
“My mission is to support our state and local governments to extend the dividends of democracy more to the people. Part of this is the recent employment of ad-hoc workers for Sabo Healthcare Centre to improve the working condition of the professionals there and to ensure 24-hours service delivery to our people.
“I am well prepared to support and champion bills that will create employment opportunities for our youth, bring investment opportunities to the private sector and ensure meaningful and purposeful development to Nigeria, Oyo State and Ibadan North in particular.
“It is my in plan to initiate a bill, Data Bill, support state police and work on recognition of Amotekun as one of the security outfits in the country.”
Sarumi stated that his mission to represent Ibadan North Federal constituency is to change the narratives by identifying with the less privilege, needy and most importantly to form an all-inclusive government with appropriate feedback mechanism.
“As a young politician, my intention is to change the mindset of the people that politics is dirty and meant for the riff-raffs in the society. My intention is to be identified with less privilege, the needy and the upcoming generations.
“You will agree with me that nobody repeatedly does something same way and gets different results, passion to change the narratives of our country on the global space continues to lubricate our participation and commitment. I am contesting on the platform of PDP to better the lots of my people and contribute my quota to the national development “
Sarumi, who is a Software Engineer, expressed his readiness to engage and synergize with both public and private sectors to create avenue for development of the people of the constituency, saying that when elected he will use the position to facilitate many developmental projects particularly loan facilities for the market men and women at Bodija, Sango and other markets within the constituency, as well as small scale enterprises.
He noted that part of his plans is to organize structured and interactive town hall meetings to give the people of various communities within the constituency the opportunity to mention their priority projects, noting that this will give him the chance to engage them based on their choice of needs as their representative.
“According to him, “my philanthropic gesture precedes my ambition as we have been doing this before the idea to contest came up. As a private citizen, there is limit to what I can do. The idea to contest came up in order to have more muscles to render service to humanity.”
He said that as a lawmaker, he will partner with the state government and non-governmental organizations to give a better life to the destitute within the constituency.
