Scarcity Of Petrol, New Naira Notes: FG Must Demonstrate Unambiguous Signs Of Remorsefulness

President Muhammadu Buhari...

The untold (but unnecessary) hardship being experienced by Nigerians, as occasioned by the scarcity of premium motor spirit popularly called petrol and new naira notes has made some states of the federation to introduce palliative measures to lessen the burden on the hapless citizens of the country.

Oyo State, under Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde rolled out instructions that the state-owned transportation company must ferry passengers free of charge along some routes.

Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the number one man in Lagos State also commissioned some bodies and organisations to give out food packs to those he called the ‘vulnerable and the less privileged facing challenges as a result of naira and fuel scarcity’.

We are sure many other state governments will make moves in this direction but unfortunately, the real ‘harbinger’ of the bad experience Nigerians are currently facing, the Federal Government is yet to show any serious sign of being remorseful.

The people of this country know that the full responsibility, the blame and perhaps, the ‘curses’ being hurled in the direction of those responsible for the economic crises in the land by Nigerians should be enthusiastically accepted by those concerned.

No rocket-science approach is needed before anybody can deduce and even conclude that the sufferings the people are wallowing in presently is as a result of bad judgment, ineptness, vendetta-seeking and kleptomaniac approach to governance by those in positions of authority.

The most unfortunate aspect of this is that the Federal Government as represented by President Muhammadu Buhari is doing little or nothing to convince Nigerians that it is in any way sorry or remorseful. In saner climes, the government would have been dragged to court because not making naira notes available to the citizens amounts to human rights’ violation. The cash (naira notes) we are talking about was worked for and earned! So, the owner must not be deprived of access to it.

So, if President Buhari’s government is not showing clear signs of being apologetic, will it be ready to compensate Nigerians for the shoddy treatment it has been unwittingly dishing out to his people?

Only time will tell.

History, however, will not forget those who had hands, and are still deeply involved in ‘roasting and economically emasculating’ Nigerians under the guise of ‘fiscal and financial’ restructuring.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
