Architectural students from the College of Environmental Sciences and Management, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos have a very bright future.
This was revealed by the former President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Chief Charles Majoroh at the just concluded Lagos Architects Forum tagged Lagos 14.0 with the theme: Lagos – An evolving organism.
The event held from 3rd to 6th May 2023 at the Expo Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Chief Charles Majoroh applauded the quality of the architectural programme in Caleb University during an interview session at the sideline of the Forum. He stated inter alia, “I am very impress with the flavour of the school and lecturers who are so committed, the future is very bright for Caleb and they should continue in that trajectory”.
The former Registrar, Architect Registration Council of Nigeria and former President, Africa Union of Architects, said he is proud of one of his staff members who is a Caleb University graduate.
He went on to commend the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Lagos State Chapter for their innovations and for leading the pack and essentially for hosting the Lagos Architects Forum for the past 14 years.
Caleb University sent the highest student delegation to the Forum this year, in line with the institutions policy to expose students to global best standards in architecture.
The student delegation was led by a team of staff from the College of Environmental Sciences and Management, includes the Dean, Prof Oluwole Alagbe and Head of Department, Prof Oladipo Dare-Abel who was one of the discussants at the forum, made insightful discussions on sustainability and climate change and the effects on the development of Lagos State.
He used the opportunity to tell the participants about focused areas of Research at Caleb University Department of Architecture which include: Smart City strategies, Zoning and development compliance, Passive design, sustainable building materials, Building information modelling (BIM), waste management, environmental protection and conservation of heritage buildings and sites.
One of the student delegates to the Forum, Victoria Ogunleye, a 400-level student of Architecture, said, she learnt the importance of sustainability in designs and the need to do more research on building materials before they are recommended for use in constructions.
