As part of plans to establish a formidable women’s football team and to bring the best out of girl child, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde‘s government in Oyo State has announced its readiness to establish its own women’s football team.
While addressing newsmen on Monday, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke revealed that the State Governor has directed her ministry to work on modalities to establishment a women’s football team for the state with the intention of giving the same leverage for the female player like their male counterparts.
Speaking at the media briefing, Hon. Adegoke maintained that Oyo government is ready to form alliance with all stakeholders and set machinery in motion for the smooth take off of the team.
“The proposed establishment of Female Football Club in the state is another milestone in the annals of the present Government and we are happy that we are part of the success story.
“Prior to this time, before it went into oblivion, female football clubs existed in the state in a private capacity thereby limiting its opportunities among the female youth and its lifespan in the state.
“The establishment of female soccer in the state which is long overdue is another record-breaking achievement of this administration. We, therefore call on all football-inclined female youth to take the moment and avail themselves of this opportunity to dust their boots and make themselves available for the life-transforming venture that has come on a platter of gold.”
Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, therefore, promised an all-inclusive football team as the plan is to pick players from the grassroots and from secondary schools across the state to kick start the project.
