All roads led to the Senior Staff Club of the University of Ibadan on Saturday, January 27, 2024 when foremost historian and iconic scholar, Professor Olutayo Charles Adesina marked his 60th birthday.
The event, witnessed by the Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede was a low keyed event that was graced by the heaviest in the academic world especially from the University of Ibadan.
All the speakers at the event including the junior brother of the celebrant, Chief Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media & Publicity attested to the brilliance and trustworthiness of Professor Tayo Adesina.
His wife, Dr Oluwakemi Adesina who is also a lecturer at Redeemers’ University equally attested that her husband is the best in the whole world.
“I cannot wish for any other man as my husband because he is a man of principles and he is also very God-fearing”.
While responding to the comments on him by his guests, the Osun state born scholar said “I am most grateful to all of you here present. I am specially appreciative of those who had to travel to be part of this event from outside Ibadan. I pray God to forever be with you all.”
The celebrant took time to equally praise his wife for her steadfastness adding “I am quite happy with her. She has continued to impact positively on my life since I met her. She was one of my students you know, she practically wooed me,” he added with laughter.
Apart from the JAMB Registrar and Chief Femi Adesina, other dignitaries at the event included, Emeritus Prof. Richard Olaniyan; Prof. Idowu Olayinka, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan; Prof Akin Alao and his wife, Prof. Francis Egbohkare, Prof. Solomon Oyetade, Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan and Justice Àkànbí.
Other prominent Nigerians at the event also included Prof. Yinka Aderinto, Prof. Victor Edo, Prof. Tunde Decker, Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Osun State University, Dr. Mutiat Oladejo, Dr. Muritala Monsur, Dr. Ranti Afowowe, Dr. Temitope Fagunwa, Dr. Sunday Akande, Mr. Raifu Isiaka and Prof. Hakeem Danmole, Prince Towo Aderemi, Mr Yinka Fabowale, a representative from the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission), Professor Ajayi and others.
