As part of its oversight functions, the Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology, Wednesday visited the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo to assess the budgetary performances for the institution.
According to a release signed and made available by the Institution’s Media and Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeoye, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan while receiving the committee in his office, expressed the delight of the University Management in receiving the team.
According to the renowned technocrat, “I heartily welcome you to Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, our University, your University. I wish to thank His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for his love for our institution which has reflected in his giant strides in the education sector.
“I must equally place on record our appreciation to the leadership of Oyo State Parliament ably led by the Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin and this Honourable House Committee on Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology under the Chairmanship of Hon. Oluwafemi Fowokanmi.
“I can’t hide our sincere appreciation to your committee for your prompt responses to issues affecting the progress of our University. We have documented all you requested in this report and I can assure you that answers have been provided to all questions.”
Speaking further, the Eruwa-born administrator used the occasion to brief the committee on the efforts so far made since his appointment by the Governor on 9 August, 2023. He took time to reel out the problems confronting the institution particularly in the area of finance and infrastructural developments. He, in company of other top management staff later conducted the committee round the campus for an on-the-spot assessment of some abandoned government projects.
Responding, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Oluwafemi Fowokanmi thanked the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan and his Management team for blazing the trail as reflected in the report submitted to the committee.
“Let me on behalf of this House Committee commend the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan and your Management team for the good job you are doing here. The record must be put straight that our Governor, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE indeed meant business with having quality tertiary education in Oyo State.
“Within one year of his assumption of office, he moved to secure a sole proprietorship of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. He moved again to upgrade the erstwhile College to what we now know as Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo. The Iseyin Campus of LAUTECH is a masterstroke too. Regular subvention and creation of an enabling environment for tertiary education to thrive are indeed unprecedented”, he submitted.
“Oversight functions of House Committees are necessary to access the state of things in our tertiary institutions. This undoubtedly is to help and guide the house in the work of legislation and recommendations to the Executive Governor and his team. This we have come to do. We are happy to see how far you have gone and the current situation of things on this campus. On behalf of our committee, I assure you that we shall do the needful by reporting appropriately to the House leadership and we can assure you that areas that need attention shall be given necessary attention”. The duo of Honourable Rasaq Adekunle Mabaje (Ido), Vice Chairman, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin Onaolapo (Ogbomoso South), Leader of the House equally corroborated the position of the Chairman.
