The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has kick-started a move to rename the First Technical University, Ibadan after the late former governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

The governor is also requesting the confirmation of appointment of Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu as the President of the state Customary Court of Appeal.

This was contained in two different letters forwarded to the state House of Assembly by Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday.

The letters were read at plenary by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.

The governor is seeking the attention of the state House of Assembly to repeal the law establishing the institution to reflect the recent change in the name of the University by Governor Seyi Makinde to Abiola Ajimobi First Technical University, Ibadan.

The letter reads “This administration has observed the need to repeal the First Technical University, Ibadan, Oyo State Law, 2021 and enact a new law to reflect the University’s well deserved renaming from First Technical University, Ibadan to Abiola Ajimobi First Technical University, Ibadan. This is also to ensure its governance structures are in line with other State owned Institutions.”

It will be recalled that the First Technical University, Ibadan was established by late Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2017.

In another development, Engr. Seyi Makinde has requested the confirmation of appointment of Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu as the President Customary Court of Appeal from the state to the State House of Assembly.

The request became imperative following the recommendation of Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu to the National Judicial Council as President of the Court of Appeal by the Oyo State Judicial Service Commission.

According to the letter, “Consequent upon the request, the National Judicial Council has recommended Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu as the new President of Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal”

The position was vacant due to the retirement of former President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Oyo State, Hon. Justice Moshood Akintunde Abass.
