Former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Adeolu Akande, has appealed to groups and factions in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State to unite for the party to win the forthcoming local council election in the state.
He also urged the members to settle their differences so that the party can conveniently win the elections of 2027.
Professor Akande said Oyo State is an APC State but the crisis in the party costs it the last election election.
He made the plea in Otu, headquarters of Itesiwaju Local Government area, on Wednesday, when he hosted party chairmen and chairmanship candidates of the party in the 10 local government areas of Oke Ogun zone in the forthcoming local government election in the state.
Prof Akande said the party had suffered from the aftermath of the 2022 Congress adding that it is time for the members to ‘forgive and forget’ in the interest of the party and people of the state who are daily yearning for a progressive government.
Prof Akande said there is no better time for the party to unite than now that the party needs the unity of members to cruise to victory.
Akande, who noted that the national leadership of the party has been making moves to ensure reconciliation in the party in the state, also noted that the onus is on the members of the party to allow reconciliation and unity.
Prof Akande gave N500,000 financial support to the party in each of the 10 local government areas towards their preparation for the April 27 election.
In attendance at the event were the APC Chairmen in the 10 local governments of the Oke Ogun Zone as well as the Chairmanship candidates in the 10 councils.
Also present were 21 former local government chairmen in the Oke Ogun area of the state.
