An ex-convict, Tajudeen Ridwan, has been arrested by the operatives of Osun Amotekun Corps in Isale Osun Area of Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly stealing electronic appliances in a mosque.
The spokesperson for the Corps, Idowu Yusuf, in a statement, said 30-year-old Ridwan was released from a Custodial Centre in March after serving a four-year jail term following his conviction for offences bordering on stealing.
The suspect was reportedly caught in the act again by some worshippers before Amotekun operatives were contacted.
Commenting on the arrest, the Commander of the Corps, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), said that the suspect disguised as a worshipper and used the opportunity to steal an amplifier from the mosque.
He said, “He was caught after morning prayer thinking that all the worshippers had left the mosque, but luck ran against him when some worshippers saw him parking the electronic musical amplifier inside a bag.
“The attention of Amotekun Osogbo Command was called to the act and the operatives swung into action immediately and apprehended the felon on the spot. Upon preliminary investigation, he confessed to being an ex-convict who just completed his 4 years jail term for the same act in March this year.”
Adewinbi added the suspect had been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution.
