We Are Still Committed To Ogun Youth’s Empowerment – Prince Abiodun

Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering the youth to engender national development.

Abiodun also disclosed that the transformation of Nigeria to a more prosperous nation is hinged on the unleashing of the abundant potentials in the youth of the country.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Oluwasesan Fagbayi, disclosed this on Saturday during the 2024 annual public lecture and Mega Gyration of De Kegite Club, Ogun Hemisphere held in collaboration with Kegite Club of Eko Hemisphere at June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Abiodun lauded the club for preservation of the country’s culture and for also providing guidance for the teeming youths.

The governor said that his administration would continue to provide an enabling environment for the youth to thrive because they are the driver of the country’s greatness.

He said: “Our young people are the driving force behind innovation, creativity, and progress. They are the leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers who will propel Nigeria to greatness.

“I urge all Nigerian Kegite youths to embrace their power and take ownership of their role in nation building developmental programme of the current administration, led by HE, Bola Tinubu .

“As we look to the future, I am filled with hope and optimism that Nigeria will be great. I believe in the potential of Nigerian youths to transform our country and make it a better place for all to live and enjoy.”

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the event, the Olota of Ota, Abdulkabir Obalanlege, also hailed the club for promoting unity in diversity and for providing a veritable platform for the members to socialise and form a common fronts for the betterment of the nation.

Obalanlege urged the youth to shun joining groups that promote senseless killings and violence but to rather take a cue from Kegite club which ultimate aim is to foster peace, joy and harmonious relationships which are all essentials for national growth.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “African Culture, Youths and National Development: Kegites Club As an Example” Professor Oladiipo Ajiboye of University of Lagos, described the youth as the backbone of the economic growth and social advancement of any nation.

Ajiboye of the department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies, said that some of the ideals which Kegite club promotes such as unity in diversity, cultural awareness, discipline, education among others are very vital to the robust development of any nation.

He urged the group to keep flying high the banner of the club and remain on the path of the founding fathers whose vision is to use the club as agent of socialisation and moulding its members to become great assets to the nation.

Speaking about the programme, the Chairman, Media and Communication Committee, De Kegite Club, Ogun State Hemisphere, Ibukun Fatunmibi said that the essence of the gathering of the second indigenous students’ club on campus was to celebrate culture, network and see how they could contribute further to the development of the country.

Fatunmibi urged the youth to shun cult group where their destinies are ruined but to rather join groups like Kegite club which promotes youth empowerment and help them channel their energy to productive venture.

Fatunmibi who was the leader of the De Kegite Club of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta between 2008 to 2009 said “for emphasis, Kegite club abhor cultism, at least every ilya, that is a chapter of the club must do a campaign against cultism every year.

“We do our things in the open and this is a group that promotes culture, transformation, unity in diversity, networking and empower the youth with those ideals that will make them to be useful to themselves and the nation at large.

“I will urge our youths to shun group promoting killings and violence, they should rather identify with groups whose noble ideal is to nurture them to become game changers for the country and all of these they can find in the Kegite Club,” he said.
