In a significant crackdown on criminals, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State has presented ten suspects accused of a range of serious offenses, including gang rape, illegal abortion, and various financial fraud schemes to the press.
The suspects included four individuals connected to the horrific gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in Ibadan.
The brutal assault resulted in a pregnancy, which was later terminated in an illegal abortion. The suspects, Qayum Babatunde (18), Azim Gbadamosi (19), Mutiu Olaniyi (43), and Moshood Oyindamola (23), all residents of the Oranyan area of Ibadan, were arrested following a detailed investigation by the NSCDC. Oyindamola, an unlicensed nurse, is alleged to have carried out the abortion, further compounding the grievous nature of the crime.
In a separate incident, the NSCDC also apprehended Aminu Victor, a 19-year-old from Adamawa State, who stands accused of raping his employer’s nine-year-old daughter. The shocking crime has left the local community in disbelief, with many calling for swift justice.
The Command’s efforts to combat financial crimes also yielded significant results with several suspects arrested for their involvement in various fraud schemes.
Bakare Jide Damilare, 42, from Ogun State, is accused of conspiring with an accomplice to defraud a man of 17 million Naira under the pretense of selling a Toyota Highlander Jeep. Damilare, who resides in Ikorodu, Lagos State, allegedly used multiple bank accounts to perpetrate the scam.
Another suspect, 25-year-old Alabi Victor from Osun State, reportedly used his father’s bank account to defraud an unsuspecting individual.
Meanwhile, three fraudsters – Abiodun Oluwafemi, Akinloye Sakirat Folasade, and Victoria Akanbi – were arrested for their roles in defrauding a store owner of 738,670 Naira. Akanbi, who worked as a POS attendant, is believed to have funneled the stolen funds to her accomplices over a span of ten months, from October 2023 to August 2024.
The Oyo State Command of the NSCDC has assured the public that all suspects will face the full wrath of the law, with court proceedings set to commence once investigations are completed. The Command has also reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order in the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agents.
