The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Club Owners Association has appointed Taiwo Lekan-Salami as vice chairman, South, placing his experience, organisational capacity and innovative approach to football administration at the center of efforts to reposition the association and strengthen the collective interests of clubs in the southern region.
Other newly appointed executives during the NFF AGM recently held in Ibadan include Dominic Lorfa, vice chairman, North; Solomon Babanjah, coordinator; Gabriel Adigwe, provost; and Anthony Chukwudi Amaefula, welfare officer.
The new executive committee is expected to usher in a more coordinated and progressive approach to addressing the interests of club owners while improving engagement between the association, its member clubs and other stakeholders in Nigerian football.
Particular attention is expected to focus on Salami’s role as vice chairman, South, a position for which his organisational capacity, football administration experience, stakeholder management skills and reputation for promoting structured approaches to sports development are considered valuable assets.
Salami is also expected to bring a more innovative and commercially driven outlook to the association. Improving digital communication, strengthening commercial partnerships, promoting data-driven decision-making, enhancing club branding, and developing initiatives for the financial sustainability of NPFL clubs are key potential focuses.
His appointment could provide an opportunity for the southern bloc to embrace fresh ideas around revenue generation, fan engagement, digital platforms and stronger collaboration among club owners.
Salami’s record with Shooting Stars further underscores the potential impact of his appointment. Within just one season, he helped guide the Ibadan-based club to continental qualification—an achievement that had eluded the traditional Nigerian football side for almost 27 years.
With the new executive committee now in place, expectations will be high for the association to translate the appointments into practical reforms that will strengthen the collective voice of NPFL clubs, improve the operating environment for club owners and contribute to the continued development and professionalisation of Nigeria’s domestic football league.
