The Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government in Ogun State has said that it is dedicated to ensuring that Adult and Non-Formal education sector is adequately catered for, so as to give space for an enlightened and more civilised society.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, revealed this in Abeokuta, during a day workshop organised by the Ministry and Agency for Mass Education (AME) for Adult and Non-Formal Education Supervisors and facilitators across the state with the theme, ‘’Engaging and Motivating Adult Learners: Creating Learners-Centred Environment that Promotes Active Participation, Utilising Diverse Teaching Methodologies to Cater for Different Learning Styles’’.
Prof. Arigbabu, according to Mr. Samuel Ogungbesan, Press Officer, MOES&T, stated that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration was passionate about providing qualitative and accessible education to young learners and adult students, who come with reservoir of life experiences, motivations and aspirations, noting that adult education serves as a bridge for personal growth, professional development and community enhancement.
He highlighted some of the government’s interventions to include, release, approval and 100 percent upward review of the Honoraria for Adult and Non-Formal Education personnel across the state, as well as support for Monitoring and Supervision of Adult Education programmes in the state.
The Commissioner enjoined participants to pay close attention to details and to put what they had learnt to practice, saying they should endeavor to impart the students, towards moving the Non-Formal Education sector to an enviable height.
Earlier in her address, Director of Education, Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Olubunmi Oso, said the workshop was organised to explore innovative strategies for creating dynamic and inclusive learning environment that would cater for diverse needs of adult learners, adding that it underscores the importance of fostering learners-centered approaches that would empower adult to take ownership of their learning process.
Two of the participants in their responses, Mrs. Adunola Adekoya and Mr. Olugbenga Oguntade, lauded the Ministry for organising the workshop, saying it would enhance and broaden their horizons on how to add value to the knowledge of adult learners in their various centres across the state.
