Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has approved disbursement of N443 million as death benefits to relatives of 132 local government and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) workers.
Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Bolaji Robert, represented by Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, presented insurance certificates to beneficiaries at the ministry’s conference room in Alausa-Ikeja.
The commissioner noted ‘‘the gesture by the governor is proof he prioritises workers’ welfare. This disbursement is a commensuration for the quality service offered by the civil servants.”
Robert urged beneficiaries to ensure the benefits are used well.
The commissioner urged desk officers to ensure proper documentation of certificates.
“We recognise no amount of financial compensation can replace the love, care, and companionship of departed loved ones. However, we hope these benefits will provide some comfort, financial security, and support,” he added.
Director of Local Government Administration, Rasak Amodu, who spoke on behalf of Mrs. Bolarinwa, noted that Sanwo-Olu has continued to approve disbursement of these insurance benefits so bereaved families will not be stranded.
Mrs. Bolarinwa thanked the insurance firms, LASACO and Haggai, for partnering government in ensuring benefits reach beneficiaries.
SUBEB Chair, Hakeem Babatunde-Shittu, represented by Director of Pensions, Mrs. Taibat Olona, said the presentation was to honour those who worked for a greater Lagos.
