Super Eagles’ striker, Victor Osimhen has urged his Galatasaray teammates to learn from their mistakes after squandering a two-goal lead in their UEFA Europa League clash against Dynamo Kiev recently.
“It’s hard to be satisfied with the result,” Osimhen told the club’s official platform after the match.
“We need to take responsibility as a team. I think we all made mistakes. They fought well and scored their goals. There have been two consecutive draws. Now we need to work hard, learn from our mistakes, and focus on the upcoming matches.”
The Nigeria international, who scored from the penalty spot to give the Turkish giants a comfortable lead before their late collapse, emphasised the importance of improved teamwork in crucial moments.
“If I’m making a strong run, I look to see who I can pass to or receive the ball from. We could have scored more goals today. It’s crucial to learn from our mistakes and get better.”
The 26-year-old’s comments echoed the sentiments of manager Okan Buruk, who believed his side deserved more from the encounter.
Despite reaching the milestone of 20 goal involvements for Galatasaray this season, with 14 goals and six assists in 18 appearances, Osimhen has faced criticism from some quarters, with Turkish football expert, Serhat Ululuren labeling him as overrated, citing several offside positions and missed chances during the match.
The striker, who is currently on loan from Napoli, has been in impressive form, scoring in four of his last five games for the unbeaten Turkish league leaders.
Galatasaray will look to bounce back from their recent slump when they face Konyaspor in their next league fixture, as they aim to maintain their impressive domestic record this season.
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s parent club Napoli are reportedly willing to offer Manchester United a discount on his €75m release clause as part of negotiations involving Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho’s potential move to the Serie A side.
