First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called on all Nigerians to take tuberculosis (TB) seriously, stressing the importance of early diagnosis and treatment to save lives.

In her statement marking World Tuberculosis Day 2025, the First Lady said, “TB is curable, and early treatment saves lives.

“If you have a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, unexplained weight loss, night sweats, or fever, please visit the nearest health facility for free TB testing and treatment,” she urged.

Speaking as Nigeria’s National and Global Stop TB Champion, the First Lady Tinubu emphasised that the fight against TB is not just a policy issue, but a personal one.

“I have felt the pain of the loss of a friend,” she revealed, highlighting the devastating impact of the disease.

She noted that TB remains a major health threat, particularly when undiagnosed and untreated, and stressed the need for greater awareness and intervention.

“We must not allow more lives to be lost to a disease that is both preventable and curable,” she said.

This year’s World TB Day theme, “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver,” reinforces the need for collective action.

The First Lady echoed this call, urging all stakeholders to unite efforts, invest in proven solutions, and ensure the widespread delivery of life-saving interventions.

“Together, Yes! We Can End TB. Let us commit, invest, and deliver on this promise for a healthier and TB-free Nigeria”, she declared.
