The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested one Samuel Adewunmi also known as Ifa Science for allegedly cutting the body part of a two-month-old baby for ritual purposes.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Dyke Ogbonnaya, in a statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Monday, disclosed that the suspect was arrested after a tip-off by the victim’s father.
According to Ogbonnaya, the baby’s father had noticed a cut on the back of his baby’s head and raised the alarm which led to the arrest of the suspect.
He said, “On May 1, 2025, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command Headquarters, Abeokuta, arrested one suspected ritualist by the name Samuel Adebisi Adewunmi (aka Ifa Science) for inflicting grievous bodily harm on a two-month-old baby.
“The tip-off came through one Kola Taiwo, a 53-year-old man, when he noticed the cut-out part on his baby’s body behind the back of his head.
“The officers and men of the corps on hearing the incident moved in to arrest the suspect who is currently undergoing investigations with the state command’s intelligence and investigations department.”
Ogbonnaya stated that the offence was punishable under the Criminal Laws of Ogun State and the command would ensure that justice is served on the matter.
In her reaction, the NSCDC State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, was quoted as urging parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts.
“The offence is punishable under the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, and the corps will do everything within its powers to ensure justice is appropriately served.
“Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, in her reaction, warns parents to be very careful and critical of their children’s whereabouts while also warning anyone intending to cause any form of bodily harm, damage or dangerous mayhem on another to be ready to bear the consequences as the Corps will never hesitate to ensure that the full weight of the law is meted out on such a suspect,” Ogbonnaya concluded.
