Can our readers meet you?

My name is Agboola Adisa Sunday, the Osun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). I was born on 28 October, 1966 at Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

I had my primary education at St. John Anglican Primary School in Imala, Ogun State where I obtained my First School Leaving Certificate in 1979. Thereafter, I attended Araromi Community High School, Atan Ota, Ogun State for my West African School Certificate (WASSCE) in 1983.

Later, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Lagos, (UNILAG) Akoka, in 1994 before I bagged a certificate in Advance Diploma in Security Operations and Management from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State in 2007.

Thereafter, I bagged my Master Degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, 2011.

I joined the NSCDC in 2004 and I have worked in different departments, commands before I later became the Osun State Commandant.

Currently, I am a Fellow, Institute of National Security and Intelligence Studies (FINSIS) and an Associate member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).

How will you assess the recently conducted Osun State gubernatorial election?

The election was peaceful, fair and acceptable to the people. The people of Osun are peace loving and orderly. We did not record any act of hooliganism, I must commend them for a job well done.

What is the level of your commitment in ensuring that criminal activities are nipped in the bud in the state?

I want to use this opportunity to assure the people of Osun State of my total commitment and readiness to fight crime and reduce the activities of criminals by combating them headlong and ruthlessly.

Firstly, I want to appreciate the good citizens of the state for their untiring support toward the success of the recently held gubernatorial election and I want to assure them of adequate security even after the gubernatorial election.

I want to further inform the people of the state that the NSCDC command is gallantly ready to carry out its mandate and guarantee excellent security service delivery for the people and that my leadership will not compromise on the issue of professionalism on the part of the men and officers of the state command.

I am very sure that our officers will be more professional in the discharge of their duties. My passionate appeal to the members of the public is to assist the command with credible information about the activities of criminals in all the nooks and crannies of the state.

What efforts have you made to combat criminals since you arrived Osun State as the Commandant?

Since I arrived Osun State, we have paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, (Ojaja II) and the Ataojo of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji to familiarize ourselves with the two prominent monarchs.

We have assured them of our readiness to tackle all forms of insecurity, protection of lives and property and to protect all critical assets in the state.

We are therefore soliciting for the cooperation of all monarchs in the state on the need to advise, caution their citizens to be security conscious, vigilant and co-operate with the NSCDC by giving useful and timely information that is needful in tackling criminals in the state.

The monarchs have promised to assist and support us in ensuring that NSCDC delivers on its mandate of protecting public facilities and securing lives and properties of the residents of the state.

Can you mention some of the places you have worked before you assumed the position of the state commandant?

I have worked in several places since I joined the services of the NSCDC. Firstly, I was an operation officer with the Gombe State Command of the NSCDC in year 2004 before I was transferred to become 2i/C PGC Department at the NHQ in 2005 where I worked for a period of only one year.

Furthermore, I have also worked at the HOU PGC, Monitoring and Supervision NHQ in 2006 before I was posted to the HOU PGC Licensing, NHQ in 2011.

I was the HOD PGC Department for the FCT Command in 2016 and I worked there for six good years before I was later transferred to the FCT Command as the HOD Training and Manpower Development in 2020.

Later, I was posted to the Oyo State Command as the HOD PGC Department in 2022 before I assumed office as the Osun State Commandant.

My working experience has been very interesting, security job is very tedious and one needs a lot of discipline especially as one rises to leadership cadre.

Can you enlighten us more on the trainings that you have undergone since you joined the NSCDC?

Since I have joined the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), I have attended many trainings and special courses which included management course I held at the Prison Training College Kirikiri Apapa, Lagos State in year 2005, performance enhancement training for officers in conjunction with Concept College London in 2005 at the Salient Royal Stefem Nigeria Ltd.

I have also attended courses on effective monitoring and supervision of Private Guard Companies (PGC) at Chrisvis Konsult Ltd Abuja and the training on security capacity building for senior officers at the Centre for International and Strategic Studies (CISS) in Abuja.

My other trainings include special training on weapons and tactics experience held at the M.E. Roy Security and Training Academy, Israel in year 2010; training on small arms at the prisons training school, Kaduna in 2011, counter terrorism awareness facilitators course held at the British High Commission Office in Abuja in 2019 among others too numerous to mention.
