Preparations have reached top gear for the Ariya Eko Music Festival 2025, scheduled for Sunday, October 5, at the prestigious Shell Hall, Muson Centre, Lagos.
This year’s edition promises to be historic, as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu leads the state in celebrating some of Nigeria’s most revered cultural and musical icons.
Organised by Evergreen Musical Company Ltd, in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ariya Eko 2025 is dedicated to recognising outstanding personalities whose works have shaped the nation’s music, film and cultural heritage.
Among the distinguished honourees are Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey (84), King Jossy Friday (85), General Kollington Ayinla (72), Elder TundeKelani (77), Evangelist J.A. Adelakun (Amona), Gharikowu’ Lemi (69), Ola Balogun (80), Pa Ajobiewe (69), Sir Emma Ogosi (85), Evangelist Dr. Funmi Aragbaiye (70), Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli (77), Admiral Dele Abiodun (77), Laolu Akins (78), Stella Monye (69), Dr. Mrs. D.A. Fasoyin (85), and Uncle Toye Ajagun (80).
Themed “Celebrating Legends in Their Lifetime”, the festival will spotlight veterans—mostly above 65—whose creative genius defined genres such as Juju, Fuji, Highlife, Gospel, Waka, Sakara, and indigenous storytelling.
One of the major highlights of the evening will be the “Do You Remember” segment, where younger artistes will perform and reinterpret timeless classics of the honourees, recreating the artistry that made them household names.
Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, said the festival reinforces Lagos’ place as a custodian of African culture.
“Ariya Eko is more than entertainment; it is a statement that Lagos will always honour the men and women who gave us identity through music and culture,” she said.
Managing Director of Evergreen Musical Company, Bimbo Esho, explained that the vision behind Ariya Eko is rooted in the need to honour cultural icons while they are still alive to witness the recognition.
“Our icons paved the way, and Ariya Eko is about giving them flowers in their lifetime. This festival connects generations—reminding us of where we are coming from and inspiring where we are going,” she said.
Since assuming office, Governor Sanwo-Olu has earned a reputation as a listening leader committed to preserving history and creativity. By spearheading Ariya Eko 2025, he is once again showcasing Lagos as Africa’s cultural heartbeat while ensuring that Nigeria’s pathfinders receive due honour.
With the stage now set, Lagosians and visitors are assured of a night where culture, memory, and music will converge in a grand celebration.
