MK Dons Women captain, Favour Omenazu, has committed her international future to Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations despite being eligible to represent reigning European champions, England.
Omenazu’s passion for football stems from her father, a former goalkeeper.
She has been described by her minders as a brilliant and highly versatile player who can operate effectively in several positions and has been rated as the best right-back in the fourth tier of English football.
Skillful, quick, and assertive on the ball, Omenazu combines pace with aggression, aerial strength, and reliability in the tackle, while her defensive intelligence and tireless work rate give her the engine to cover ground relentlessly and support her team throughout the game.
When asked whether she has considered representing Nigeria at an international level, Omenazu admitted that wearing her national colours is one of her key aspirations.
She told AYSuga Channel, “It would be a proud moment because that’s where I am from; that’s where my family is from.
Everybody back home would be ready to go to any games and support in any way they can, and it would mean so much to give back to my heritage and where I come from. So it would be amazing.
The interest has always been not only to play at the highest level. One of my goals is to play for my national team, represent my country, and do well. I want to contribute to the success that we already have.”
Reflecting on her best position on the pitch, Omenazu revealed that she is primarily a midfielder but noted that many of her standout performances have come from playing at right-back, a role she was often assigned due to her physical and technical attributes.
My most Woman of the Match awards have come from playing at right-back. Even when I was at Leicester City, they put me there because I had those attributes, and apparently I flourished there.
I’m naturally a midfielder, a number eight. I love to attack, but I’m also really strong defensively. I’m aggressive; I break up the opposition’s play, help us regain possession, and then drive us forward.”
A product of Leicester City, the versatile midfielder had spells at Bugbrooke St. Michaels, Northampton Town, and Stourbridge before switching to MK Dons.
