Makinde’s Wife Flags Off Health Insurance Scheme Programme For The Elderly In Egbeda LG

Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr (Mrs) Tamunominini Makinde, has flagged off a one-year enrolment package for 250 elderly residents of Egbeda Local Government under the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme (OYSHIA).

The package, which is an empowerment programme emplaced by the chairman of the council, Hon Sikiru Sanda, is aimed at creating greater access to healthcare delivery for the elderly.

This was as Mrs Makinde also commissioned the newly-renovated marriage registry/event hall now known as Tamunominini Makinde Multipurpose Hall, a structure renovated to provide a dignified environment for weddings and generate revenue for the local government.

Speaking at the event on Tuesday, Mrs Makinde commended Hon Sanda for the laudable projects, charging other local government chairmen to emulate such acts.

According to her, the free health insurance scheme would guarantee the elderly persons an access to free quality healthcare for their well-being and equally help them to detect and manage their ailments at no cost.

She, therefore, charged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity of free healthcare through the local government.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Egbeda Local Government, who is also the chairmen of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State, Hon Sanda, said his administration remains committed to making life more meaningful for residents of the council.

He said that the event was three-in-one, including the commissioning of pedestrian bridge at Adabi Area, launch of health insurance scheme and commissioning of the newly-renovated hall, which all reflect his government’s dedication to progress, productivity and prosperity of the council.

Sanda stated that the projects would complement the efforts of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in Egbeda Local Government and that they all have a direct impact on the lives of the people.

He explained that the newly-renovated Marriage Registry Hall will attract more intending couples, increase patronage and consequently boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Egbeda Local Government.

The chairman appreciated Governor Makinde and his wife for their support to the local governments, the administration’s open door policy, focus on sustainable development, unwavering commitment to grassroots development, women empowerment and social welfare.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi and the Co-Chairman , Oyo State Elders’ Council, Elder Wole Oyelese, commended Hon. Sanda’s strides in Egbeda Local Government, stressing that the free healthcare for the elderly is a way of preventing health-related challenges among the elderly.

The event had in attendance a former two-term member representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Busari Olayemi; member representing Egbeda State Constituency in the Oyo state House of Assembly, who is also the Deputy House Leader, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola; Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Williams Akin-Funmilayo; Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun; former Chairman, Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, Pastor Akinade Alamu; religious leaders, traditional rulers, and service commanders, among other dignitaries.
