The Police Command in Oyo, has begun investigation into the cause of the death of a teenage boy found in the University of Ibadan swimming pool.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.
Olayinka said that information gathered from the institution’s Chief Security Officer revealed that the body of the victim, aged between 14 years and 15 years, was sighted on the surface of the swimming pool in the early hours of Thursday.
The PPRO said that police detectives immediately visited the scene while a preliminary investigation revealed blood oozing from the mouth and nose with slight bruises on the nose.
According to him, “The case is being treated as a suspected murder, and the Command has commenced a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Oyo State Police Command is aware of the report circulating in the media concerning the discovery of the body of an unidentified teenage boy at the University of Ibadan swimming pool on March 26, 2027.
“Factually, information was received from the institution’s Chief Security Officer that the body of the victim, aged about 14–15 years, was sighted on the surface of the swimming pool earlier that day.
“Detectives promptly visited the scene, where preliminary observations revealed that the body had been removed from the pool and placed beside it.
“Blood was observed oozing from the mouth and nose, with slight bruises on the nose. Items suspected to belong to the deceased, including a pair of shoes and a shirt, were found close to the pool, while bloodstains were also observed within the pavilion area.
“The body was evacuated to the General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead on arrival and subsequently deposited at the mortuary.” He urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information as investigations were ongoing.
