Suspected Murderers Of Ekiti Chief Paraded By Police

The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended four suspects in connection with the case of conspiracy, attempted murder and murder of a  Chief, late Fatunla Shola, a 35 years old who was killed at Yemero, Ikole-Ekiti, Ekiti State recently.

The State Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Mr. Amba Asoquo who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the paraded individuals at the state command headquarters in Ado Ekiti, said that the arrest of the four suspects was in line with the initiative of the Inspector-General of Police to focus on Community Policing to protect lives and property of citizens.

Speaking with newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Mr. Amba Asuquo said: “I must let you know that our pro-activeness coincided with that of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Muhammed Adamu on Community Policing which has helped us to achieve this today”.

The Commissioner of Police said that the suspects committed the crime on the 5th of April, 2020 when the principal suspect, Sunday Aernan, 30 years old of Yemero, Ikole Ekiti, invited late Chief Fatunla Shola, who he claimed was having an affair with his wife to come and help them settle dispute over land in the farm, unknown to him that they had arranged to kill him.

According to the Commissioner, “the principal suspect, Sunday Aernan after getting to the farm with his workers, Jonathan Elijah 19 years, Aoufa Sule Obasanjo 24 years and Moses Iorna 24 years, who always assist him in the farm, tied the Chief to a tree and hit him with a stick after which they set him ablaze”.

Mr. Amba further submitted that according to the confessional statement of the suspects, they claimed to have tortured the Chief before beating and setting him ablaze while Sunday’s wife, Adebo Tadeni who was tied to another tree with little distance used her teeth to untie the rope and ran away to inform the people and the police.

He said the command swung into action after hearing the report which later led to the arrest of the suspects who ran away with a bike to the boundary of Ekiti and Kwara State.

The Police boss, however, thanked the general public for their useful information at all times, charging them to be security conscious, vigilant, and law abiding by reporting any suspected persons and ugly incidents or call police control Room Number on GSM: 08062335577.

In his Confession, while fielding questions from mediamen, the suspect, Sunday Aernan claimed to have committed the crime with his workers and pleaded for mercy. According to him, the Chief was having an affairs with his wife. “My wife was having affairs with the Chief. Anything I gave her, she will always give it to the Chief. I told her mother several times, there was even a time that I took the issue to police”, he revealed.
