Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed as the interim general secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), replacing Véron Mosengo-Omba.

In a signed press release dated Sunday, March 29, 2026, from Cairo, Egypt, Mosengo-Omba announced his resignation after over 30 years, effective immediately, to pursue personal projects.

Adamu succeeds Mosengo-Omba of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who is set to contest the presidency of the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association.

Mosengo-Omba was appointed in March 2021 to replace Abdelmounaim Bah, having previously worked at FIFA as the chief member associations officer.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe is expected to confirm the appointment of the young Nigerian administrator—who has risen through the CAF ranks.

“Following the Executive Committee meeting held this Sunday in Cairo, Samson Adamu was appointed interim secretary general.”

According to the report, Adamu will hold this position until the next CAF General Assembly.

Adamu, who is currently serving as the director of competitions at CAF.

Adamu, who was the initiator and CEO of the Copa Lagos Futsal tournament that attracted interest from all over the world, becomes the first Nigerian to occupy the position since the organisation’s establishment over 70 years ago.

The young administrator has earned widespread respect for his behind-the-scenes role in managing the logistics of major continental tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations, the CAF Champions League, and the CAF Confederation Cup.

He is the son of Amos Adamu, a former member of the FIFA Executive Committee who was banned from football in 2010 over a corruption scandal.
