Fury Plans Joshua’s Clash

Former World Boxing Council title holder Tyson Fury has revealed that he is aiming to finally battle the former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua as part of a three-fight plan this year.

The 37-year-old fighter will return to the ring on Saturday after announcing his retirement for the fifth time last year following his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

The Gypsy King will face Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The heavyweight confirmed he then wants to box British rival Joshua, 36, after ten years of failed negotiations.

Fury added that his third fight will depend on how things go with Joshua.

If the dream match lives up to the hype, then there could be a rematch before the end of the year.

The Manchurian bruiser, though, doesn’t expect a quality fight and thus hinted he could face someone else after Joshua.

Fury told Inside The Ring, “I just want to get as many big fights as I can at this stage of my career.

“I’ve won every belt there is; I’ve completed the game of boxing.

“It’s not really about a belt anymore; it’s just that I want to make that Anthony Joshua fight that was supposed to have happened for the last ten years but hasn’t.

“Obviously I have this big fight in front of me with Makhmudov first, and then we don’t know what the third fight might be after Joshua, but I’m aiming for three fights this year.

“If it’s a good fight with me and AJ, which I don’t think it will be, I think it will be a blow-away, and then we will have a rematch. But if not, we will see.”

Fury holds a record of 34 wins and only two losses in all of his 37 fights throughout a glittering 18-year career.
