Former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo has been confirmed dead as he slumped and died while training in Kaduna on Friday morning.
Efforts to revive the 40-year-old skillful striker, who was capped 10 times by Nigeria and scored three goals, were unsuccessful.
According to an eyewitness, Eneramo died during a kickabout in Kaduna in the early hours of this morning.
The forward had a distinguished football career, playing for teams like Esperance of Tunisia and Turkish sides Besiktas, Sivasspor, and Istanbul Basaksehir, among others.
He quit football in 2018 but usually keeps fit at a primary school pitch located in a region called Ungwan Yelwa in Kaduna, which is close to where he lives.
In the early hours of this morning, he was well and completed the first 45 minutes but slumped five minutes into the second half of the kickabout and died before they got to the hospital.
”That’s where he usually trains to keep fit, and he also runs a football academy. We all thought he was injured when he fell down. After a while we found out that he wasn’t breathing properly, and he was resuscitated and rushed to the hospital. He died just at the entrance of the hospital,” an eyewitness narrated.
