World-famous Ifa priest, Ifayemi Elebuibon, has called on Yoruba people to stop bearing foreign names and embrace their true identity.

Speaking on the importance of Isese (traditional Yoruba religious and cultural practices), he urged monarchs across Yorubaland to remain connected to their roots and uphold the customs passed down through generations.

Elebuibon, who also serves as a traveling lecturer in several institutions, including the Department of African Language and Literature at the Obafemi Awolowo University and Black Studies at the San Francisco State University and the Wajumbe Cultural Institution in California, said while kings may practice Christianity or Islam in their personal lives, preserving traditional rites remains an important responsibility tied to the throne and the well-being of their communities.

He maintained that traditional rites promote peace, unity, protection, and prosperity within communities.

Elebuibon, who is presently the president of the International Congress of Orisa Tradition and Culture, Nigeria Chapter, stressed that rulers who genuinely have the interests of their people at heart should not shy away from embracing the cultural responsibilities that come with their position.
