The Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Oyo State has gained a significant membership as the 2027 general elections approach, with the defection of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to the former Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu, to the party in the state.
The defecting APC members, drawn from all the local governments in the state, converged on Ademasingba Sports Complex on Monday to officially decamp to the APM.
The event, which was promoted as a political concert, has developed into a major youth gathering, with attendees turning up in customized shirts bearing the Boye Nation and JAF Movement logo.
The event had in attendance more than 20 prominent musicians drawn from several genres of music, alongside spoken-word presentations, which formed part of the programme as organisers sought to combine entertainment with messages about political participation.
The gathering has also featured solidarity songs and speeches focused on the role of young Nigerians in the country’s political and governance processes.
It also had in attendance members of the Arewa community, while some market leaders and their followers were fully on the ground to witness the high-octane event.
While speaking at the event, one of the event coordinators, Demola Omiyale, disclosed that the event was put together to put a stop to the era of return to misrule encountered during the reign of the APC in the state.
He maintained that members of the BoyeNation, a fallout from Bayo Adelabu camp, are ready to work with the APM to support the governorship candidate of the APM in the state, Hon. Bimbo Adekanbi, who he said is ready to make life better for the people of Oyo State.
“We are moving into the APM because our principal was robbed of the gubernatorial ticket of the APC, and we can’t work for somebody that did not have any sympathy for the people; hence, our decision to support Hon. Bimbo Adekanbi, who is a lover of the masses,” he said.
