Aliko Dangote Foundation has launched a Student Share Grant Initiative under which Nigerian students aged 18 and above can receive 10 additional shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE at no cost after subscribing for a minimum of 10 shares.

The initiative is open to students of recognised public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria and is designed to promote financial literacy, responsible investing and long-term wealth creation among young Nigerians.

    Provision For Students

According to a statement by the Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, on Thursday, the programme would provide students with practical exposure to investment and ownership through participation in the ongoing Initial Public Offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE.

“Supporting young people goes beyond providing access to education. It must also involve equipping them with the knowledge and opportunities to participate in economic growth and wealth creation. Through this initiative, we want students to understand the value of saving, responsible investing and long-term ownership. Our goal is to help them develop an investment mindset early in life,” Dangote said.

He said early exposure to investment opportunities could shape young people’s future financial decisions and encourage greater participation in the formal economy.

    Ownership

“When young people understand ownership and investment early, they are better positioned to make informed financial choices, build wealth responsibly and contribute more actively to economic development,” he added.

Under the scheme, eligible students who complete the required verification process and subscribe for at least 10 DPRP shares through the designated platform will qualify for the Foundation to fund an application for an additional 10 shares in their names at no extra cost.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mrs Zouera Youssoufou, said the initiative was designed to combine financial education with practical experience in the capital market.

“Financial literacy becomes more impactful when people can apply what they learn. This programme allows eligible students to experience first-hand how the investment process works, from verification and subscription to allotment and ownership, while reinforcing the importance of responsible participation in the capital market,” she said.

Youssoufou said the programme was also intended to encourage sustained interest in investment and asset ownership among young Nigerians.

“We are seeking to inspire a lifelong interest in financial literacy, investing and asset ownership among young Nigerians. The knowledge and experience gained through this initiative can serve as a foundation for sound financial decision-making throughout their lives,” she said.

Eligible students are required to complete the verification process through the designated Foundation platform before being directed to the subscription channel, where they can apply for a minimum of 10 DPRP shares in their own names and for their own benefit.

The Foundation said the scheme could not be used to purchase shares on behalf of another person, another Dangote company or any other company.

It added that the Student Share Grant Initiative was a standalone Foundation programme aimed at promoting financial literacy and investment participation.

The Foundation stressed that participation was voluntary and should not be interpreted as investment advice or a recommendation to acquire DPRP shares.

It urged prospective participants to carefully review the IPO documentation and consider the relevant risks before making investment decisions.
