Nigeria’s Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, has been crowned Udinese’s Player of the Season following an extraordinary campaign in Italy’s Serie A.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper earned the recognition for his consistent and impressive performances for the Zebras throughout the season after missing the first two months of the season due to a suspension linked to an alleged match-fixing scandal, a setback that threatened to derail his career at the club.
Yet, rather than crumble under the weight of controversy, Okoye mounted a fierce comeback, reclaiming his place as Udinese’s undisputed number one.
His resurgence was highlighted by a series of commanding performances, most notably against Italian powerhouses Juventus and AC Milan, where his reflexes, composure, and leadership between the posts drew widespread praise.
Over the course of 29 league appearances, Okoye kept an impressive 10 clean sheets—a testament to his consistency and mental resilience.
The recognition doesn’t stop there. Okoye has also earned a spot on the shortlist for the Serie A Player of the Month award for May, capping off a season that has firmly re-established him as one of the league’s most reliable goalkeepers.
