Meta Platforms has launched paid subscription subscription plans across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp as it looks to grow revenue beyond advertising.
The new structure introduces “Plus” tiers that give users access to additional features across the platforms, including profile customisation, expanded engagement tools, enhanced reactions and story-related insights.
Subscription fees for Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus will range between $2.99 and $3.99 per month, depending on the service.
Meta’s Head of Product, Naomi Gleit, confirmed the rollout and said the company would continue to expand the offering.
“More fun features will be added in the future,” she said.
She said the plans are designed for users who want more functionality, particularly creators and highly active users.
The company also said it will begin testing further products, including professional plans for creators and businesses, as well as AI-based subscription tiers.
These services will sit under a new umbrella system called “Meta One,” which will serve as the central hub for Meta’s subscription products.
Two AI subscription options priced at $7.99 and $19.99 per month are also being tested for Meta AI users.
The higher-tier plan is expected to provide stronger computing capacity for complex tasks, improved reasoning tools, and expanded image and video generation capabilities.
Testing will begin next month in selected markets, including Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia.
Meta said the new subscription system will operate alongside Meta Verified, its existing paid service that offers identity verification, impersonation protection and account support.
For Instagram Plus users, features include access to Story rewatch data, unlimited Story audience lists beyond Close Friends, and the option to extend Stories beyond the usual 24-hour limit.
Users will also be able to highlight Stories weekly, view Story audiences without appearing on viewer lists, and publish content directly to profiles without appearing in follower feeds.
Other tools include Super Heart reactions, custom app icons, personalised font options for bios and additional profile pinning features.
Facebook Plus will offer a similar package, while WhatsApp Plus will include chat themes, custom ringtones, expanded pinning options, list management tools and premium sticker packs.
The rollout marks a further shift in Meta’s business model following the introduction of paid verification on Facebook and Instagram in 2023.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said the move, similar to Elon Musk’s paid verification model on X, formerly Twitter, was aimed at improving authenticity and security while also opening new revenue streams.
